A Country Pub in Hambelden

The Stag & Huntsman is an acclaimed food-led British pub with rooms in the beautiful village of Hambleden near Henley-on-Thames, focusing on a seasonal menu, a great wine list and local beer selection. We focus on seasonal British cooking, much of it prepared over open fire, using the best local and regenerative ingredients we can find. Whether you’re dropping in for a midweek pint, joining us for Sunday lunch, or staying for a special dinner, we aim to offer warm hospitality, generous portions, and food that tastes like it should.

Our Food

We believe the best pub food starts with great ingredients and straightforward cooking. That’s why we work closely with a small group of trusted suppliers, including Culden Fow Estate and Paddack Farm here in Hambleden, as well as Ben Adler Estate in Scotland for much of our game. We cook a lot of our food over open fire because we think it simply tastes better. Our menus change with the seasons, and while we serve proper pub classics done well, we also like to offer more refined dishes when the ingredients deserve it. From a relaxed lunch in the garden to a proper diner by the fire, we want every meal to feel generous and satisfying.

Our Drink

We take as much care with what we pour as we do with what we cook. Our lager and ales come from Rebellion Brewery in nearby Marlow, and bring in a carefully chosen range of wines and spirits. We always have a strong selection by the glass, as well as some interesting bottles for those who want to explore. Whether you’re after a pint of local lager, a well-chosen glass of wine, or something a little stronger, we’ll have something that suits.

The Atmosphere

The Stag & Huntsman is a proper village pub. It’s relaxed, unpretentious, and welcoming to everyone — whether you’re a local popping in for a quick drink or a visitor staying for the weekend. In the colder months, you’ll find open fires and a cosy atmosphere. In the summer, our garden becomes one of the best spots in the Chiltons to eat and drink outside. We’re proud to be part of the community in Hambledon while also being a destination that people are happy to travel to.
